Welcome

What is LWRA

  • LWRA was established over 15 years ago with a view to protect those who live here from rampant crime by erecting a boomed security controlled ara with public space patrols

How do I join LWRA

  • All residents are welcome to join LWRA by completing the mandate letter (click here to download) and paying a monthly fee to support the costs of the security provided

What is the difference between LWRA, Bad Boyz and security Companies

  • LWRA contracts with Bad Boyz to manage our boom, guards and the public space vehicle patrolling the area.
  • Security companies can be engaged separately by yourselves to manage your own private security, alarms etc. There are a number of active ones in the area

Why do I need to join LWRA and pay for private security?

  • LWRA provides general security for the whole area; private security will look after your own home only.
  • Keeping the Closure up requires large funds - 7 guard houses, maintenance of infrastructure, patrol car, insurance, etc. - if residents do not contribute to this infrastructure the Closure will be forced to come down - opening our suburb to the deluge of crime we see in other nearby suburbs.
  • LWRA has dedicated residents and service providers constantly looking out for Community interests including reporting of potholes, broken street lights, problem trees, unlawful businesses, etc.. Contributing residents are at the forefront of all our work.

Community Matters

  • We are a diverse group of people - LWRA strives to bring all these groups together for the betterment of the Community.
  • Korsman Conservancy volunteers care for the beautiful bird sanctuary in the centre of our suburb, which is the focus for many community events. To get involved in preserving this amazing heritage asset, vist www.korsmanconservancy.com or contact Jane Trembath jctembath@gmail.com or 082 690-2832.
  • We send out regular news flashes and newsletters alerting residents to various matters from crime, to community events, to special offers - write to lakewestresidentsassociation@gmail.com to be added to the mailing database.

Residents Meeting

Date: 2019-04-15 08:34:30

Dear Residents

Many thanks to those of you who made time to come to the Residents meeting on Tuesday evening.  A particular thanks to those who volunteered to start paying; sponsor new initiatives and sponsor Sher Gate!

A very lively discussion ensued and there are lots of ideas the Committee will look into – further info will be forthcoming shortly.  We have two new volunteers too for the Committee and a couple of folk who will help out where they can – always a great way to get Community together.

Please do review all the attached docs so you are up to date with that is currently happening.  Specially sent to you on Friday so you have the whole weekend to review them all!)   You will receive two mails as the presentation with history and background is quite a large attachment.  Thank you for your patience.

If you have any great ideas to add – please send us a mail detailing exactly what you suggest – bearing in mind – we do not own the streets of LWRA and have to abide by the laws and by laws of the Country and the Council.  Many suggestions were received that we have investigated over the years but most we know go against our agreement with Council or Council have turned down our requests.

But we will continue to do our best.

We look forward to bringing you more news in the near future.  Our AGM will be in April this year – we will give you plenty of time and warning – please make an effort to be there this year so we can vote on new ideas and get them implemented!

News Letter

Date: 2019-02-06 12:24:11

Dear Residents

We have such exciting news to share with you – please read the Announcement first then the details of what ANPR is all about (both documents in the documents list bellow). We spent the whole of last year investigating this to ensure we can give you the best deal available.

Just to give you an example of what the ANPR is capable of we would like to share a short story of our experiment in December.

The Committee installed upgraded cameras at the Sunny Road boom late in November that are capable of working with the Syntel system.  These cameras are very hi-tech and capable of gathering much more info that our current cameras can

Syntel very kindly loaned us their system for a trial period over December and connected it to the new cameras

During this trial period a young man was followed into our area by a few hooligans from the far East Rand.  They knew we had cameras etc so put their lights on bright in order to blur the images we would normally recover, and then proceeded to beat this young badly

The guard had called for backup and being the cowards they are – they fled the scene!

Fortunately our new system recorded the details and we were able to give the victims and SAPS excellent info of registration and face recognition = we were informed recently that two arrests have now been made!

Please do consider being a sponsor or donor – we can give you a full tax deductible invoice for advertising or sponsorship which you can use at your discretion.

Level Seven will be our Fibre provider and have offered LWRA a special rate plus a commission to LWRA – if we get enough support from Residents it will assist us with monthly overheads related to the new system. – please see form (in the document list below) to complete and send back to us and Scott in order for us to arrange.  scottymeredith001@gmail.com

Thank you

News Letter

Date: 2018-10-24 22:29:07

Dear Residents

Many thanks to those of you who supported us last Tuesday night!  We also thank everyone who continues to support us with their monthly contributions.

As you will see from the attached minutes – we are now looking at Proactive solutions to stop crime before it happens- in the past we were more reactive.

This, as always, costs money- so please do continue to support us – we know times are tough – if you are having any financial difficulties feel free to contact us to find a solution – we much rather have you on board than not at all.

Some of our new innovations might be confusing if you were not at the meeting – do feel free to contact with any queries and concerns you have – along with any positive solutions.  If you do have a comment to make reply to this email address so that we can direct your concern to the relevant person.

(Our Committee this past year has had some lovely young new blood who are implementing lots of clever new ideas!)

If you are not yet a contributor – please do go to our web page for a full  overview of what LWRA is and does – there is an application on the web you can complete and join our community!

Kind regards

The Chair, Directors and Committee
